n Ringtown: The Main Street Ringtown revitalization group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Aurand Memorial United Methodist Church, Main Street. The public is welcome to attend and new volunteers are always welcome. During a recent meeting of the borough council, President Julian J. Milewski, who also is MSR president and an employee of The Republican-Herald, announced a grant of $6,000 was procured for the Ringtown Area Senior Citizens Center for facade improvements at the 104 W. Main St. center. "That's some of the final grant money from (the late) Sen. (James J.) Rhoades' program," Milewski said. "There was $10,000 up for grabs and we got $6,000 of it."
n Saint Clair: The Schuylkill Transportation System will have weekly trips to the Hometown Farm Market on Wednesdays through Aug. 22. There will be two buses going to Hometown, one departing at 9:05 a.m. from Union Station, Pottsville, and one at 9 a.m. from the STS building here. The Pottsville bus will leave Hometown at 1:35 p.m. and the Saint Clair bus will leave at 1 p.m. Prices are for one-way trips. It is free for seniors registered with STS and children up to age 8. Children between ages 9 and 12 must pay 50 cents per trip. Adult prices are $2 from both locations. n Saint Clair: Forms for the townwide yard sale are available at borough hall and at the Saint Clair Community and Historical Society, 24 N. Nicholas St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays and Saturdays and 4 to 8 p.m. Thursdays. The yard sale will be held June 16 and forms must be returned by June 8. At a recent society meeting, Financial Secretary Loai Gray voiced concern that many members have not yet paid their 2012 dues of $5 and encouraged them to do so at the society headquarters. In a press release, members also said help is needed to collect for the annual fireworks display set for July 14, the evening of the annual Saint Clair Car Cruise. Anyone willing to collect is asked to call Bonnie Baker at 570-429-2272. Members will also attend the June 14 Flag Day program at Admiral Boone Park, Third Street, sponsored by the Saint Clair Veterans Group. A patriotic band concert is set for 7 p.m. June 14 by the Cressona Band at the park. The borough has decided to make the Flag Day ceremony an annual event in honor of all veterans, according to a society press release.
n Saint Clair: The Saint Clair Veterans Welfare Council's Memorial Day service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday in the cafetorium of the Saint Clair Area Elementary/Middle School. The Grand Army of the Republic Ritual has been a part of the community's Memorial Day program for many years and will be given by the National Junior Honor Society students, according to Frank Homa Jr., council officer. Robert F. Kauffman, a World War II veteran who served with D Company, 2nd Battalion, 36th Infantry of the famous 3rd Armored Division, will be the main speaker. His book, "The Replacement," describes his combat experiences. James Corrigan will give a commemorative remembrance service with presentation of flowers. Members of AMVETS Post 142 and American Legion Post 719 will take part in the service. The public is welcome.
n Tremont: The 10th annual motorcycle Ride for Autism to benefit the St. Joseph Center for Special Learning, Pottsville, will take place on June 10. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. at 106 W. Main St. and the scenic ride will begin at 10 a.m., followed by a non-alcohol picnic at Whippoorwill Dam, Morea Road, Frackville. There will be a pig roast, raffles, 50-50 drawing and music by the band Airwaves. Donations of raffle items would be greatly appreciated, organizers said in a press release.
