Police: Watch out
for cash scams
State police at Frackville are warning area residents to be on the lookout for a scam asking for cash.
Police said a Mahanoy Area senior citizen reported receiving several telephone calls and correspondence directing her to wire a sum of money to secure a lottery prize she had won.
In this instance, thanks to alert citizens, police said the woman was stopped before sending in the money.
Police said anyone receiving such telephone calls or correspondence is to report the matter to police in their local area.
Once the money is sent, since it goes off-shore, police said it is usually never recovered and that there is no legitimate lottery known to ask for a security deposit to secure winnings.
