Man injured in

motorcycle crash

FRIEDENSBURG - A Schuylkill Haven man was flown by MedEvac helicopter to Reading Hospital and Medical Center, West Reading, following a two-vehicle collision on Route 443 at Phaon's Road, Wayne Township, at 5:55 p.m. Tuesday.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Jacquelin Drake Stephenson, 35, of Enola, was driving a 2008 Land Rover LR3 west on Route 443, approaching the intersection with Phaon's Road.

As Stephenson was making a left turn onto Phaon's Road, Gerald D. Lightcap, 42, riding a 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle, attempted to pass the Land Rover on the left and struck the vehicle, police said.

Lightcap was flown from the scene with apparent serious injuries. He was not wearing a helmet, police said.

Stephenson was not injured but was not wearing a seat belt. Her vehicle was disabled and was towed from the scene, police said.

The invesigation is ongoing, police said.

Diesel fuel, items

taken from RV

TREMONT - State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating the theft of approximately 250 gallons of diesel fuel from Blackwood Inc., 12 Tremont Road, Tremont Township, at 12:42 a.m. Saturday.

Police said someone arrived on the scene in a pickup truck, broke into a camper to steal a Schumacher Instant Power battery pack and a Lincoln 18V grease gun before using a hose from the camper to steal the diesel fuel from the tank.

Anyone with information concerning this incident should contact police at 570-593-2000.

City man faces

8 drug charges

A Pottsville man sits in prison after being arrested Monday morning for allegedly selling two drugs to confidential informants in April in the city.

Eric Brown, 30, of 235 Pierce St., faces two counts each of delivery of a controlled substance, posession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, criminal use of a communication facility and possession of a controlled substance, according to Pottsville police.

Police said they arrested Brown about 11 a.m. at his home and took him to the city office of Magisterial District Judge James K. Reiley, who arraigned him on the charges and committed him to Schuylkill County Prison in lieu of the defendant posting 10 percent, or $1,000, of the $10,000 bail set in each case.

In one case, Brown sold heroin to a confidential informant on April 2 in the 500 block of Progress Avenue, police said.

In the other case, Brown sold Clonazepam to a confidential informant on April 24 in the 200 block of West Norwegian Street, according to police.

Police said each sale was a controlled buy monitored by officers of the Pottsville Drug Investigation Unit.

2 men charged

with harassment

BERNVILLE - State police at Hamburg are investigating a dispute at 279 Bricker Road, Upper Tulpehocken Township, at 6:09 p.m. Monday.

Police charged Thomas Eugene Jones, 56, of Bernville, and Taylor Edward Stoudt, 28, of Reading, for harassment following the incident at Jone's house.

Police said Jones arrived home and a verbal argument ensued with both people exchanging punches before Stoudt left the residence and police arrived.

Summary charges will be filed with Magisterial District Judge Andrea J. Book, Bernville.

State police from Troop L, Reading, Jonestown, Schuylkill Haven, Frackville and Hamburg engaged in high visibility enforcement details between July 4 and Sunday along various roads in their coverage area.

The details were designed toward aggressive driving violations such as following too closely, abrupt lane changes, DUI and speeding.

Police issued 1,343 citations: 462 in Berks County, 535 in Schuylkill County and 346 in Lebanon County; made 15 DUI arrests: 10 in Berks County, three in Schuylkill County and two in Lebanon County; and investigated 42 crashes of which two were alcohol-related.

The North Central PA Regional DUI Enforcement Program released the results of four enforcement details conducted recently.

On June 29, one officer conducted a Roving DUI Patrol that contacted and detained six vehicles. There were no drivers tested for DUI and no DUI arrests made. The officer did make three arrests for underage drinking, one traffic arrest, three criminal arrests and issued four warning notices.

Also on June 29, a Sobriety Checkpoint was conducted on Route 309 in West Penn Township that contacted 1,054 vehicles and detained five.

There were five drivers tested for DUI but no arrests made for DUI or underage drinking.

The officers involved issued 16 traffic citations, including three child safety seat violations, along with seven written warnings.

Then, on Friday, 17 municipal police officers and state police police conducted a Sobriety Checkpoint that contacted 1,149 vehicles, detained 37 and had three drivers tested for DUI.

There were no DUI or underage drinking arrests but officers and police made 21 traffic arrests, one criminal arrest, issued one seat belt citation and 22 warning notices.

Finally, two officers from two departments conducted a Roving DUI Patrol on Saturday that contacted and detained 13 vehicles and tested one driver for DUI.

There were no DUI arrests but the officers made three arrests for underage drinking, 18 traffic arrests and two criminal arrests.

Woman charged

for stabbing man

MIDDLEPORT - A woman is in Schuylkill County Prison following a domestic violence incident at 4:20 p.m. Monday at 4 Saint Clair St.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Tammy Lee Young, 48, was engaged in a verbal argument with her husband, James Keating, 49, when it escalated to physical violence.

Police said Young slapped Keating in the back of the head and went to the kitchen to retrieve a paring knife and waved it at Keating.

When he put his hands up in front of his face, Young stabbed him in the palm of his right hand, police said. The wound required medical attention and Keating was treated and released from a local hospital, police said.

Police said Young was apprehended without incident and charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment. She was taken before Magisterial District Judge James R. Ferrier, Orwigsburg, and commited to Schuylkill County Prison in lieu of $10,000 straight bail, police said.
