A Berks County man will spend more than a year behind federal prison bars after being sentenced Tuesday in Scranton for conspiring to distribute OxyContin in 2010 and 2011 in Schuylkill County.
Richard Law II, 60, of West Lawn, must serve 15 months in a federal correctional institution, Senior U.S. District Judge Edwin M. Kosik ruled.
Kosik also sentenced Law to serve three years on supervised release following his prison term and to pay a $500 fine and a $100 special assessment.
At the government's request, Kosik dismissed five other counts against Law, four of possessing with intent to distribute and distributing OxyContin and one of forfeiture.
Law pleaded guilty on April 16 to conspiring to distribute 80-milligram OxyContin pills in Schuylkill County.
He had been indicted on Sept. 20, 2011, by a federal grand jury on that charge.
The grand jury alleged that between July 2010 and September 2011, Law participated in a conspiracy to distribute OxyContin in the county.
"Beginning in or about January 2010, Law obtained 80mg Oxycontin pills from pharmacies in eastern Pennsylvania via physicians' prescriptions," the indictment reads in part.
Law and/or his co-conspirators then would distribute the pills in Schuylkill County, according to the indictment.
Jury selection in the trial of Law's co-defendant, Stephen Nesspor, also of West Lawn, is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 24 before Kosik in Scranton.
