PORT CARBON - After reviewing a collection of bids for the borough's 2012 road program, borough engineer James S. Tohill of Alfred Benesch & Co., Pottsville, recommended the council hire a Berks County paver.
The borough will award the contract to Ronnie C. Folk Paving, Shoemakersville, Berks County, Sandra L. Palokas, borough secretary/treasurer, said Monday.
At the borough's July 10 meeting, the council decided it would allow Tohill to review the bids and select the lowest and most responsible bidder.
On Monday, Tohill recommended Folk Paving, which had a base bid of $22,899.84.
The streets to be paved are:
- Lang Street, from Acre Street to East Washington Street.
- Apple Street, from Rock Street to Oak Street.
- Lillian Street, from Fifth Street north for 123 feet.
- Walnut Street, from Fifth Street north for 182 feet.
"There's no cross street. That's just to the borough line," Tohill said. The work on Lillian also continues to the borough line.
The other three bidders and their base bids were: Schuylkill Paving Inc., Schuylkill Haven, $30,730; Pennsy Supply, Wapwallopen, Luzerne County, $28,825.70; and Landis C. Deck & Sons Site Contractors, Bernville, Berks County, $33,525.72, according to Tohill.
