Day of fun to be held in Minersville to boost skatepark funds

MINERSVILLE - The Minersville Area Skatepark Association plans a day full of food, music and games in September to help the creation of the borough skatepark.

Family Fun Fest will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. Sept. 15 at the South Cass Picnic Grove along Route 901 in Primrose.

Secretary Bobbie Domlesky said that all are welcome and it will be held rain or shine.

"We are hoping that the Family Fun Fest in September is a huge success and are planning lots of fun stuff for kids and adults alike," she said.

On the menu of homemade food, there will be stewed hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries, pierogies, haluskie, bean soup and more, as well as games for children of all ages, with prizes, games for adults and glitter tattoos.

Alcoholic beverages will also be available.

Domlesky also said that there will be large theme basket auctions valued from $85 to $500.

"We have been getting some terrific donations which will be used in our theme basket auctions, such as four Disney Hopper passes valued at $124 each and they don't expire for two years," Domlesky said. "We also have live music planned for the day including DJ Hitman Jeff and the band Still Rockin' later in the day."

According to an event flier, DJ Hitman Jeff will play from 2 to 5 p.m. and Still Rockin' from 5 to 8 p.m.

With "great food" and "fun games," Domlesky said people should bring their appetite and help support this project, and they're hoping for good weather and lots of people.

Along with the Fun Fest, the New Minersville Fire House Bikers will host a Poker Run the same day to benefit the skatepark.

Registration will begin at 9 a.m. at the South Cass Picnic Grove, while the run begins at 11 a.m.

The cost is $20 a biker and $10 a rider and the price includes $5 in tickets to be used for food at the Family Fun Fest.

There will also be cash prizes for highest and lowest hands.
