Two men died Tuesday night in two crashes - one in Ryan Township and one in Summit Station.
In the first crash, a Mahanoy City teenager was killed when the car he was driving crashed on Back Street in Ryan Township.
Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner David Truskowsky identified the man as Jonathan Palubinsky, 18, of 325 W. Pine St., Mahanoy City. Truskowsky pronounced him dead at the scene at 7:17 p.m.
Four other people in the vehicle escaped injury, police said.
State police at Frackville are investigating the crash and had no further information Tuesday night.
Police at the scene said Palubinsky was driving on Back Road, a dirt road, about a mile off Brockton Mountain Drive, when he went off the road while rounding a right curve.
When the car went off the road, Palubinsky apparently over-corrected, causing him to lose control, police said. The car continued and came to a stop on its driver's side.
Rescuers from Ryan Township and Delano removed Palubinsky from his car. Ryan Township EMS and Medic 11, Hazleton, assisted at the scene.
Ryan Township fire police closed off Back Road and kept people back away from the crash site.
In the second crash, a man died when his motorcycle hit a car in front of the entrance to the Schuylkill County Fairgrounds in Summit Station.
Schuykill County Coroner Dr. David Moylan did not release the man's name Tuesday night pending notification of his family. Moylan did say the motorcyclist was about 35 years old.
Moylan pronounced the man dead at 9:35 p.m.
The accident occurred as "the silver Volkswagen Jetta was pulling out of the fairgrounds as the motorcycle was headed east (on Route 895)," said Trooper Michael Ryan of state police at Schuylkill Haven.
The driver of the Jetta did use a turn signal, Trooper Peter Mohn said.
The man was the only one on the motorcycle, and the driver of the Jetta was being treated in an ambulance, police said late Tuesday.
Mohn said the driver of the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet.
There was visible damage to the driver's side of the gray Jetta. The grill was damaged and a part of the car near the driver's side door was dented. A window was broken and the side mirror was bent.
Jason Bowman, 41, of Reading, and his girlfriend, Tanya Brensinger, 30, of Schuylkill Haven, were in a car behind the Jetta when the crash occurred. Bowman called 911 at 8:47 p.m.
"When it first happened, I thought it was a car," he said.
He said the driver of the Jetta was pulling out and "instantaneously the bike ran right into him." Bowman said fire staff from the fair tried to resuscitate the motorcyclist.
Responding to the accident were Friedensburg Fire Department, Summit Station Fire Company, Goodwill Hose Fire Company, Cressona, Pottsville-Schuylkill Haven Area EMS and state police.
