While the western part of the state is on drought watch, Schuylkill County is seeing nearly normal rainfall.

According to David Martin, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in State College, the county saw 0.75 inches of rain in Pine Grove and 0.26 inches in Mahanoy City on Tuesday.

"There has been a lot of variation in the eastern part of the county," Martin said.

He said estimated precipitation in the western part of the county has been 2 to 3 inches.

Rainfall is expected to continue in the coming days with the NWS forecasting a chance of showers and thunderstorms every day though Tuesday.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected after 1 p.m. Saturday. The storms are expected to possibly produce gusty winds and heavy rain.

"Monday's chance of showers comes with some cold front," he said.

While the NWS did not have rainfall data for the entire month of July for Schuykill County, Martin said that it recorded 4.60 inches of rain in July at Harrisburg International Airport.

The recorded data is only 0.1 inches below the normal rainfall for July and this month is also tied for the warmest on record.

"Somerset through Erie and Pittsburgh has been fairly dry, but rainfall has been a bit better," Martin said, speaking about drought conditions in the state. "There's nothing out your way. I don't think anything would happen at this point, unless it gets dry again."

According to streamflow data from the U.S. Geological Survey, the two locations that report data in Schuykill County, Schuylkill River in Tamaqua and Landingville, both are reporting normal streamflow.
