n Frackville: The Frackville Museum will celebrate its first anniversary on Sunday with new displays, pictures and memorabilia. "We are featuring bridal gowns through the ages, honoring our veterans and firefighters," Kathy Kraft, museum volunteer, said in a release. "We have extended Heritage Hall with many murals, cabinets filled with hats and dishes." The public is invited to participate. For more information, phone 570-874-3531.

n Minersville: The newly formed Sunshine Club from Heritage Hills will stage a street sale from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday for Minersville Spirit Day. In a release, organizers said the sale will feature bargains and "something for everyone." For more information, contact Anna Kubilus at 570-544-6027.

n Orwigsburg: The first Schaeffer's Harley Davidson Schuylkill Muscular Dystrophy Association Black-N-Blue Ball will be held from 6 to 11 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Schuylkill Country Club to raise funds for the MDA. Phil Schoener, WBRE-TV sports director, will host the event. The Little Ragu Blues Band will provide live entertainment. According to a press release, the "one-of-a-kind event will give area business and community leaders a chance to expose their alter egos on the road to a cure for neuromuscular disease." Highlights will include the unveiling of the 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle. Participants will have the opportunity to try on the latest in Harley gear, experience a temporary tattoo and get their Harley photo taken by Studio L. Bartenders at the Schuylkill Country Club will introduce the Black and Blue Cocktail for the gathering. Guests will also have the opportunity to participate in live and silent auctions showcasing destination trips, a private wine tasting, entertainment and sports events. The local MDA goodwill ambassador, 13-year-old Brandon Harris, Gordon, will be introduced at the ball. He was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy when he was 6 years old. DMD, according to the release, is caused when a particular gene fails to make the protein dystrophin. Brandon loves sports and is a big Philadelphia Eagles fan. He lives with his father, Bob; mother, Julie; older sister, Nicolette, and grandfather, Bob. Denise Calderone and Joanne Parulis are co-chairwomen for the event. About 100 families in Schuylkill County are dealing with a type of MD. n Pottsville: Baber Day will be held on Sunday at the Charles Baber Cemetery, 14th and West Market streets. Nature and history tours will start at 3:15 p.m. The Third Brigade Band will give a concert at 4 p.m. There will be a bake sale, a grab bag for children ages 8 and under and a picnic with hot dogs, corn, baked beans, salad and soda. Evensong service will be held at 6 p.m. in the Chapel of the Resurrection in the cemetery. Admission is free; goodwill donations will be accepted. Bring a folding chair and a sun hat. n Pottsville: Jill and Doug Murphy, parents of 3-year-old Espn D. Murphy, who died in November 2011, have established The Brightest Star in the Sky Espn Murphy Foundation, a nonprofit organization aimed at supporting childhood cancer research in hope of one day finding a cure. When Espn died his parents donated his tumor and a portion of his brain to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital to be used for further scientific study and research. He was diagnosed with a type of tumor called a diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma in March 2010. To raise money for research projects, the foundation will host two events for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September. The Espn Murphy Cancer Shootout, a paintball tournament, will be held Sept. 9 at Paintball Adventure Park, Taneytown, Md., open to men, woman and children 10 and older. Sept. 21 through 23, the foundation will stage a Chinese auction at the Yorkville Hose Company. Times are 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. n Ringtown: The Ringtown Valley Fire and Rescue Company will hold an all-you-can-eat breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday at the firehouse, West Main Street. The cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children. The menu includes sausage, bacon, scrapple, creamed chipped beef on toast, scrambled eggs, home fries, mackerel, French toast, pancakes, coffee, tea and orange juice. Patrons may eat at the firehouse or take food out. Everyone is welcome.
