Ashland: The Ashland Area Rotary Club will hold its annual Omega Health screening from 7 to 9:30 a.m. Sept. 29 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. The basic cost of the test is $50, with options for additional testing. Participants should register in advance by calling Quest Diagnostics at 800-776-6342.

Ashland: The Ashland Area Rotary Club and five other local clubs met recently in Frackville for the official visit of District 7360 Governor Jim Eberly from the Rotary Club of State College. The combined meeting with five other clubs was necessitated by the new district's complement of 77 clubs. Eberly spoke about his pride in being a Rotarian and encouraged all to promote Rotary at all levels. He also commented about Rotary International President Sakuji Tanaka and his theme "Peace Through Service." Eberly encouraged all Rotarians to support The Rotary Foundation through annual giving and mentioned Rotary's Polio Plus program to eradicate polio throughout the world. At the district level, Eberly encouraged each club to sponsor at least one Shelter Box to help in disaster areas of the world. He also asked local Rotarians to increase membership in all clubs and work hard to get younger members. He concluded by announcing upcoming district events. Later, Eberly met with the boards of directors of each club. In Ashland club business, members thanked Jerome Schmoltze for supplying a truck and driving it for the club's float in the ABA Parade. The Ashland club members met the challenge issued by the Hegins-Valley View Rotary Club for a return miniature golf outing at Goody's Fun Center near Frackville. Both clubs joined for dinner after the match. The Ashland Rotarians have begun planning for the community Christmas tree. Rotarian Patrick Reilly and the committee have begun the search for a tree. Members also learned the Ashland food pantry needs donations of packaged food that is not outdated to help people who are experiencing difficulties.

McAdoo: The McAdoo Community Civic Association will hold a bake sale beginning at 9 a.m. today at Boyer's Market. The sale will benefit the Halloween parade to be held tentatively on Oct. 21. Anyone wishing to donate baked goods or make a donation may do so by calling Theresa 570-929-3043 or Mary at 570-929-3658.

Pottsville: A yard sale to benefit Hillside SPCA Joe's Fund will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 22 at Bubeck Park, Stoyer's Dam, Washington Street. The fee is $10 per space. Shenandoah: The Shenandoah Rotary Club will sponsor a pet inoculation against rabies, administered by Brookside Animal Hospital, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 20 at the Rescue Hook & Ladder Fire Company, Main and Centre Streets. The fee is $10 per shot. Other inoculations will be available for an extra fee. Everyone is welcome. All pets must be leashed and kept under control by owners.

Tamaqua: The Tamaqua Area High School Class of 2013 will hold an All Your Favorite Things bingo on Sept. 23 at the West Penn Fire Company. Admission is $20 and will include 20 regular games valued at $50 to $200, specials, a $300 jackpot. Refreshment will be available. Proceeds will be used to give the students an all-night party following graduation that will be a drug- and alcohol-free event.

Tamaqua: The Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center has numerous activities on the agenda for September, including the celebration of National Adult Day Care Week Sept. 17-23. Other activities include a spaghetti dinner and flu shots Monday, a cooking class Tuesday, Salvation Army service Wednesday, musical entertainment by Audrey Christ Sept. 24 and a podiatrist visit Sept. 28. The center also features weekly sing-alongs, exercise sessions, a variety of therapies, social games and a hairstyling and manicure service, which require advance notice.
