Diakon Living and Learning After 50 announces its lineup of fall courses, events, activities and workshops designed exclusively for the active older adult.

Country Dance, Spirituali-tea fall foliage hayride and a line dance hoedown are some of the special events. New this year is a book club, which joins the vegan cooking, kayaking and camera clubs.

Courses range from fitness and recreation, health and wellness, computer applications, the arts and crafts, to general interest. Zumba, belly dancing, tai chi, hypnosis for pain control, connecting with your angel, aromatherapy, computer basics, calligraphy, jewelry make-over, stained glass, pottery, basket weaving, self-defense, photography, Chinese, sign language, journaling, genealogy and dog obedience training are just some of the courses offered.

There's also a list of autumn strolls until the end of October available.

Register early because classes fill quickly. Course dates vary and may run through November and beyond.

For more information or to register, call 624-3018. Course fees apply for most activities.

Mark your calendars: Diakon Living and Learning After 50 invites you to its Senior Expo from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at the Fairlane Village Mall. There will be a ton of exhibitors, free flu shots, give-aways, Medicare Part D representatives, live music, cooking demos, wine tasting, antique appraisals, a fashion show, refreshments and more.

Schuylkill Keep it Pretty will host its annual call cleanup Saturday. Contact Bob Stablum, at 628-3758, to register or to arrange for supply pick up.

Make A Difference Day is in five weeks. We still have projects available for adoption, including a new one from the Schuylkill Headwaters, who will be conducting a fall clean-up in New Philadelphia the following Saturday.

Also new is the request for kitchen items, blankets, personal hygiene items and used furniture for Schuylkill Bridge House. Others projects range from remodeling, to book sorting, to gardening. If you'd prefer to donate to an ongoing project, we have several options from baby item, sock and coat collections, a dog supplies drive to supporting the American Diabetes Association.

If any of these projects appeal to you, contact this office for details.
