Man charged with underage drinking

WILLIAMSTOWN - Michael Wendell Fortune Jr., 19, of Williamstown, was charged with underage drinking after fleeing from a party on Center Street, near Rock Street, Wiconisco Township, at 12:25 a.m. Saturday.

State police at Lykens said Fortune was so intoxicated, he vomited about 10 times and was unable to stand on his own.

Police said Fortune was released into the custody of his mother and charges were filed with District Magistrate Rebecca E. Margerum, Elizabethville.

Toolbox taken from vehicle

ELIZABETHVILLE - State police at Lykens are investigating the theft of a toolbox from the vehicle of Joseph Allen Rider Sr., 31, of 29 S. Market St., sometime between Wednesday and Friday.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at Lykens at 717-362-8700.

Haven man hit utility pole

PINE GROVE - A 50-year-old Schuylkill Haven man suffered minor injuries after hitting a utility pole while avoiding a deer on Rock Road, about half a mile east of Pleasant Road, Pine Grove Township, at 7:43 p.m. Friday.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Michael Keefer was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro east on Rock Road when he went off the shoulder of the road to avoid collision with the deer and hit the pole with the vehicle's front bumper.

Police said the vehicle sustained significant damage and had to be towed from the scene.

Police said Keefer was charged for the accident.

Police probe hit and run

CRESSONA - State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating a hit-and-run accident involving two vehicles that occurred at 7:40 p.m. Saturday at the jug handle intersection of Route 61 and Pottsville Street, North Manheim Township.

Police said Samantha Haynes, 29, of Pottsville, driving a 2004 Chevrolet Aveo, was stopped at the traffic light when another vehicle struck the rear passenger side of the Aveo before continuing north on Route 61.

Police said a witness tried to get information from the driver before fleeing the scene.

The vehicle was described as dark blue or black and a Chevrolet sedan, either a new Malibu or Impala, and was being operated by an older white male with an older white female in the passenger seat holding a dog on her lap, police said.

Police said the Pennsylvania license plate was for a disabled person and may have red paint transfer on the driver's side of the vehicle.
