The 17th Congressional District candidates will debate at 7 p.m. today at Penn State Schuylkill's John E. Morgan Auditorium, just outside Schuylkill Haven.
Democrat Matt Cartwright will meet Republican Laureen Cummings in the event co-sponsored by The Republican-Herald and the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Penn State Schuylkill.
Tickets, which were distributed earlier this month, are required to attend the event.
Doors of the auditorium open at 6 p.m. and audience members must be seated by 6:45.
The one-hour debate will be the subject of a live blog on republicanherald.com and televised live on PCN.
Cartwright, a 51-year-old lawyer from Moosic, and Cummings, a 48-year-old home health nursing agency owner from Old Forge, are running for a two-year term to replace the senior member of the state's congressional delegation, U.S. Rep. Tim Holden, Saint Clair, a 10-term incumbent who lost to Cartwright in the April 24 Democratic primary election.
Pete Banko, editor of The Republican-Herald, and Jeff Buchanan, chairman of the chamber's government affairs committee, will moderate the debate, which is five days before Tuesday's General Election.
