ORWIGSBURG - An Auburn man sits in prison, and is headed to Schuylkill County Court, after a judge determined Monday there was enough evidence to support three charges against him stemming from an incident in October in Schuylkill Haven.
Robert D. Steffie Jr., 42, of 1694 Summer Hill Road, must defend against charges of criminal trespass, loitering and prowling at nighttime and public drunkenness.
At the end of a preliminary hearing, Magisterial District Judge James R. Ferrier ruled that prosecutors presented enough evidence to support the charges against Steffie. Ferrier then ordered those charges held for court.
Schuylkill Haven borough police allege that Steffie broke into the house at 419 Parkway at 11:43 p.m. Oct. 3. Police said Steffie tried to crawl through a window but fled after being discovered by a woman who lives there.
While fleeing, Steffie knocked over a free-standing fence, according to police.
When caught, Steffie had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, glassy and bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and a staggering gait, police said.
Following Monday's hearing, Steffie returned to prison, where he is being held in lieu of $15,000 straight cash bail.
Other defendants whose cases Ferrier considered on Monday, the charges against each of them and the judge's dispositions of the matters included:
Daryl S. Dronick, 23, of 42 N. Fourth St., Cressona; driving under the influence, stop sign violation, speeding and careless driving; right to preliminary hearing waived, charges bound over for court.

TREMONT - A Tower City woman must appear in Schuylkill County Court after waiving her right to a preliminary hearing Thursday on charges stemming from what prosecutors allege were two incidents this year in her hometown.
Teea E. Shoop, 20, of 109 E. Wiconisco Ave., faces charges of conspiracy, theft and receiving stolen property in one case and conspiracy and receiving stolen property in the other.
Magisterial District Judge Carol A. Pankake bound over those charges for the county court after Shoop waived her right to a hearing in the matters. Prosecutors withdrew a charge of burglary in the first case.
Tower City police filed charges against Shoop in each case.
In the first, they allege that Shoop committed the crimes on March 20, while in the second, they allege she committed the crimes Oct. 2. Each incident occurred in Tower City, borough police alleged.
Shoop is in prison in lieu of $35,000 percentage bail, meaning she would have to post $3,500 in order to be free pending further court action.
