n Mount Carmel: Due to Election Day, the Pennsylvania Retirees Subchapter 8601 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Council 13 has changed its meeting to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Primitive Methodist Church, 33 N. Market St.

n Minersville: St. Matthew the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church has several things on its agenda, including a scheduled Nov. 19 casino bus trip to Mohegan Sun. The cost is $25 with a $45 rebate. For reservations or more information, call 570-544-5231 or 570-544-5465. The parish will also sponsor a bus trip Dec. 5 for the Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. It is for the 11 a.m. matinee with second mezzanine seating. The cost is $88 per person, which includes the show, bus and driver gratuity. For people who wish to get the bus trip for a free day in New York, the cost is $35. The bus will depart from Minersville at 6:30 a.m. and depart at 6 p.m. from New York for the return trip. n Orwigsburg: The Schuylkill Country Club will feature a comedy night with Dwight Slade on Nov. 16 to benefit the Orwigsburg Free Public Library. Doors and the buffet will open at 6 p.m. and the show will begin at 8 p.m. The cost, $65 per person, includes peel-and-eat shrimp, meatballs marinara, potstickers, risotto balls, bacon-wrapped scallops, sausage stuffed peppers, crab cake sliders, chicken parm skewers, Asian saute station and a carving station. Reservations are required. Tickets can be purchased at the library or reservations can be made by calling the country club at 570-366-0622. Slade is a veteran comedian who has opened shows for Jay Leno and Jerry Seinfeld, according to an event flier.

n Pottsville: The American Cancer Society will sponsor a "Look Good … Feel Better" makeover workshop from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street. Local female cancer patients, who are actively undergoing cancer treatment, will have an opportunity to brighten their day by attending. During the two-hour session, trained cosmetologists will meet with patients to discuss how to use makeup and accessories to minimize appearance-related side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatment. The program is offered in a group setting and provides participants with cancer education, information and support, according to a release. Each woman will learn to apply makeup using kits provided by the American Cancer Society's partnership with the Personal Care Products Council Foundation and the National Cosmetology Association. To register, call the cancer society at 800-227-2345. There is no charge for the materials or the workshop.

n Pottsville: The Pageturners, a group of the Friends of the Pottsville Free Public Library, has announced date changes for its book discussion. Due to the upcoming holidays, Garth Stein's "Racing in the Rain" will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday in the board room of the library and H.T. Anderson's "Feed" will be discussed at the Christmas party set for Dec. 13. Reservations are required. Those interested can call President Frances Lorenz.

n Pottsville: Family Matters will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 17 at the National Children's Study Office, 171 Red Horse Road (across from the soccer fields on the Gordon Nagle Trail). Environmental education coordinator Patrick M. "Porcupine Pat" McKinney will make a presentation on old-fashioned toys followed by tips for economical holiday gift giving and a family craft. n Schuylkill Haven: The Schuylkill Haven Senior Citizens will hold their "Pumpkin Night" meeting at 7 p.m. Monday in the senior center, 340 Haven St. Following the business meeting, members and guests will be entertained by the club's "Golden Girls," whose program will get people in the mood for the Christmas season, according to a press release. Tickets for the annual Christmas dinner are available to members with a current membership. Pumpkin refreshments will be provided. New members 55 and older are always welcome. Dues are $5 per year.
