PORT CARBON - The borough council approved its tentative 2013 budget Tuesday - a $1,038,704.35 spending plan - with no tax increase.
The millage in the proposed budget is 12.149, or $12.14 for each $1,000 of assessed property.
According to Councilman Ray Steranko, who heads the borough's finance committee, the proposed budget has $884,457.55 in the general fund, $59,421.80 in the liquid fuels fund and $94,825.00 in the operating reserve fund.
The council is planning to give final approval to the 2013 budget at its regular December meeting, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Dec. 11, Steranko said.
In other matters at Tuesday's meeting, the council voted to spend $594.98 to buy its own intoximeter, a device used to measure the degree of an individual's intoxication by means of a chemical breath test.
"We didn't renew our agreement with North Central Highway and they picked up all their equipment, including the intoximeter, which is for DUIs, to measure the alcohol intake.
"So I think it's imperative that we purchase one," Steranko said.
The estimate from Gill's Inc. Steranko provided the council included the unit, which costs $529.99, and 250 mouth pieces for $64.99,
The council also voted to advertise for bids for a contractor for emergency snow removal.
