HARRISBURG - House Minority Leader and Scranton native Frank Dermody was re-elected Tuesday without opposition by his caucus to a second term in that post.

Dermody represents an Allegheny County district but he brings a first-hand knowledge of Northeast Pennsylvania to policy debates in the Legislature.

Rep. Neal P. Goodman, D-123, was elected without opposition to the leadership post of Democratic caucus administrator. He replaces a lawmaker who is retiring. The job involves handling day-to-day operations and office space for Democratic lawmakers.

"It gets me a seat at the table where the big decisions are being made," Goodman said.

Goodman, starting a fifth term, has led the caucus of northeast House members.

As is customary, Reps.-elect Kevin Haggerty, D-112, Dunmore; Marty Flynn, D-113, West Scranton, and Frank Farina, D-115, Jessup, attended and voted in the Democratic caucus elections. Winners in last week's elections, the three will officially become lawmakers Dec. 1 and be formally sworn into office Jan. 1.

On the Republican side, Rep. Sandra Major, R-111, Montrose, was re-elected unanimously by her colleagues to her leadership post as House majority caucus chairwoman. She conducts GOP caucus meetings where members voice their views on pending bills. Major is starting her 10th term.
