TOWER CITY - Schuylkill County Crime Stoppers and state police at Schuylkill Haven are asking for the public's help in finding the persons responsible for two burglaries that occurred between Oct. 22 and Nov. 4 in Porter Township.
Police said the first burglary occurred between Oct. 22 and Nov. 2 at 526 W. Grand Ave. when Henry Shinn reported someone entered his home while he and his family were away and removed a jug with about $1,000 in loose change from an upstairs bedroom.
Then, on Nov. 4, police said Corey Umberger, Tower City, reported leaving his home about 12:30 p.m. and returning about 15 minutes later to find someone peeking out of the blinds of a window.
Umberger said when he entered the home a white man ran out of the front door toward the Brown Jug and that he tried to chase him but was unable to catch him.
The man is described as being about 19 years old with black hair, a beard and a husky build. He was last seen heading east on Wiconisco Street, police said, adding that Umberger reported about 20 pounds of copper piping was stolen from inside the property.
Schuylkill County Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information on the identity of the persons responsible for these burglaries on any other unsolved crime in Schuylkill County.
Callers are asked to refer to incident number 11-18-12 when calling with information about either of the burglaries in Porter Township.
