Tower City man
charged in crash
JONESTOWN - A 23-year-old Tower City man will be cited for failure to drive on roadways laned for traffic by state police at Jonestown after a crash on Route 4025, Goldmine Road, in Cold Spring Township, Lebanon County, at 9:57 p.m. Tuesday.
Police said Ted A. Moore was driving a 2008 Mazda 6 south when he veered to the left and sideswiped a guide rail on the left side of the road.
The vehicle followed a left curve, went off of the right side of the road and struck a tree head-on, police said.
Moore was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and was not injured, police said.

HIGHRIDGE - A crash that occurred at Highridge Park Road and Keystone Boulevard in Cass Township at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday is being investigated by state police at Frackville.
Police said Donald Corby, 74, of Saint Clair, said he was driving his 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt east in the right lane of Highridge Road and alleged that another vehicle traveling in the left lane "cut him off" by turning directly into his path while turning south onto Keystone Boulevard.
Corby said he tried to avoid contact with the other vehicle but went off the road and struck a concrete curb and a traffic sign, police said.
The impact caused moderate damage to the front end of Corby's car and he and his passenger, Mary Corby, 75, also of Saint Clair, were not hurt, police said.
Cass Township police were not working at the time of the crash, police said, adding that fire and EMS units were not called.

The North Central Regional Sobriety Checkpoint DUI Taskforce announced that Sobriety Checkpoints and Roving DUI Patrols will be conducted today through Tuesday on Routes 61, 183, 901, 209, 1006, 309, 443, 895, 125, 25, 924 and 54.

Man allegedly
used bat on car
TOWER CITY - A man allegedly used a baseball bat to smash the rear passenger's side of a vehicle Tuesday, breaking a window after another driver alerted him to his driving habits in a school zone.
State police at Lykens described the man as tall, skinny, with short hair and possibly in his 30s. He was wearing jeans and a flannel shirt at the time of the 5:30 p.m. incident on Route 209 near the Williams Valley High School, Wiliams Township.
The victim, a 60-year-old woman from Tower City, said the man was driving an older model red pickup truck, possibly a Ford Ranger, police said.
The woman told police that she and the man were driving west on Route 209 when the male driver passed her in a school zone. She flashed her lights at him, police said, to warm him he was in a school zone.
Police said the man got out with his bat, police said. The woman attempted to drive around the man but he struck the passenger's side of her vehicle with the bat, breaking the passenger's side rear window.

Charges filed
in wake of crash
FRACKVILLE - A Pottsville man will be cited by Frackville police with careless driving as the result of a crash that occurred about 5:50 p.m. Friday.
Police said David Schaffer, 522 Harrison St., was driving a pickup truck at a high rate of speed coming into the borough on North Lehigh Avenue. An officer in the process of taking down a speed enforcement machine saw the truck going fast and then failing to make a left turn, causing Schaffer to lock up the brakes and skid into the lot of Harper's Auto Body where it struck a parked 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee, causing damage to the grill and bumper.
Police said Schaffer told them he was driving "way too fast" and was unable to make the turn. The man said he tried to avoid hitting the parked SUV but was unable to do so, police said.
Schaffer will have to answer to the citation before Magisterial District Judge Christina E. Hale, Frackville.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said a side entrance door was smashed at Schuylkill Veterinary Hospital, Pottsville, between 1 and 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
Those responsible then fled the scene, police said. The investigation is ongoing.
Woman victim
of theft, fraud
WILLIAMSTOWN - A borough resident was the victim of theft and access device fraud earlier this month.
State police in Lykens said someone accessed Michele Bobroski's checking account and made online purchases Dec. 1.

City man charged
in 1-car crash
FRACKVILLE - A man was not injured in a one-car crash at 9:14 a.m. Tuesday on Route 61 near Mall Road in Blythe Township.
State police at Frackville said Joshua Cooper, 24, of Pottsville, was driving north too fast for conditions when he drove out of a curve in the road, spun clockwise and hit a guide rail.
After spinning clockwise, police said he traveled east onto the shoulder, hit the guide rail with the front end of his 2007 Subaru and ended up facing northeast, blocking the passing lane of Route 61 north.
Police said he was wearing a seat belt, adding PennDOT traffic control assisted at the scene.
Charges were filed in the office of Magisterial District Justice David A. Plachko, Port Carbon.
Shenandoah man
to face DUI charge
SHENANDOAH - A 48-year-old Shenandoah man was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following an incident at 6:47 p.m. Wednesday at Route 924 and Cherry Street.
State police at Frackville said Robert Seigel was stopped for a traffic violation and was found to be under the influence of alcohol.
He submitted to a breath test and was found to be above the legal limit, police said.
DUI charges were filed with the office of Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker, Shenandoah, police said.
Minersville teen
charged at school
MAR LIN - A 17-year-old Minersville boy was charged with institutional vandalism following an incident at 11:12 a.m. Wednesday at Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29, 17 Maple Ave., Norwegian Township.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said the student became upset over a school issue and left his classroom.
While walking through the hallways, he punched, kicked and head-butted six holes in different walls throughout the school, police said.
He was restrained by school staff, police said.
Charged will be filed through the Schuylkill County Juvenile Justice Office, police said.
Shen woman
to face charges
GIRARDVILLE - An 18-year-old Shenandoah woman faces charges following a hit-and-run crash at 3:05 p.m. Wednesday at 389 West Main St.
State police at Frackville said that a 1998 Saturn SI, driven by Jamie Nicole Winters, was traveling eastbound on Main Street and struck the rear of a 1999 Ford F-150, belonging to Edward Whitecavage, 64, of Girardville, that was legally parked in front of Whitecavage's home.
Winters failed to stop and was contacted by police at her home after the crash.
She was not injured and will be cited for the crash, police said.
Winters' vehicle sustained moderate damage to the hood, front passenger's side fender and passenger's side mirror, while Whitecavage's vehicle sustained damage to the rear bumper and had a scratch on the driver's side of the pickup bed, police said.
Girardville police were not working at the time of the incident, police said.
Window broken,
stereo taken
SCHUYLKILL HAVEN - A window was smashed and a stereo broken in a car at a dealership along Route 61 between Thursday and Saturday.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said someone smashed a passenger's side window of a 1997 Toyota 4Runner and pried out the dashboard stereo at R & R Auto Group, 388 Route 61, North Maheim Township.
