A group of college- and high school-age performers who put on a variety show in Pottsville in August are returning this week to celebrate the Christmas season.
"The Schuylkill Theatrical Showcase, A Christmas Special," directed by Chelsea Lucas, 19, of Cumbola, will be held at 7 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Saturday at the Sovereign Majestic Theater.
"We wanted to bring as many performers together as we could because we had so much fun with the last one. And we will be doing scenes from the movie 'Elf', and 'Merry Christmas Charlie Brown' and singing traditional Christmas songs including, 'O Holy Night.' And, at intermission, Santa's going to be coming," Lucas said Wednesday.
According to Lucas, the cast includes: Kelly Pleva, 21, of Friedensburg, musical director and lead vocalist; Anthony Kurdilla, 17, of Frackville; Steven Moyer, 20, of Tamaqua; Jake Beers, 16, of Tamaqua; and Ivan Munoz, 16, of Tamaqua.
The cast members are donating their time and planning to donate their share of door receipts to the Red Cross to support victims of Hurricane Sandy.
Tickets are available by calling 570-628-4647. Prices are $8 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under, according to Lucas.
Lucas is a 2011 graduate of Pottsville Area High School and is a theater arts performance major at Bloomsburg University.
While in high school, Lucas acted on a number of local stages, both in high school productions and shows with the Actors Guild of Schuylkill County.
In July, Lucas pulled together local talent for the first "Schuylkill Theatrical Showcase," held at the Sovereign Majestic on Aug. 3 and 4.
Looking ahead, Lucas said she's hoping to do another "Showcase" in summer 2013, a tribute to Broadway.
