Prom gowns, corduroys and black dresses were among the attire worn by 14 young women Sunday night who are trying to be the next Greater Pottsville Winter Carnival Snowflake Princess.
With hardly a seat available, the women put their best feet forward and - in one case crutches - to show those in attendance what they have to offer.
As part of the 46th annual carnival, the high school juniors participated in a fashion show at Pine View Acres from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Each contestant, when their time came, answered questions from T.J. Fitzpatrick, moderator.
Mary Ella Hallick, chairwoman for the Snowflake pageant, said the women could wear whatever they wanted.
"We're excited to see the different fashions," she said.
Gabriella Bentz, 16, representing Pottsville Area, wore black Ugg boots, pink corduroy pants, a black lace blouse and a fake fur vest and a white and black fedora, said she chose what to wear by picking through her closet.
"It's fake 'cause I don't like to kill animals," she said prior to the start of the event.
Corinne Foster, 17, who represented Blue Mountain, chose her dress because she likes the color purple and it has special meaning for her.
Hannah Rinaldo, 17, Minersville Area, wore a long black gown and a bracelet from her grandmother. She had to use crutches because she recently had surgery after dislocating her knee.
Shanna Rogers, 17, of Schuylkill Haven, wore a pink sequined dress with silver sparkling heals.
"This is actually my prom dress from last year," she said.
The women each one by one strutted their stuff in front of the audience and the judges. They were then asked questions by Fitzpatrick. After that was done, the women then appeared before the audience and the eight judges.
"I thought it was really nice. I enjoyed it," Helen George, Mahanoy City, said of the fashion show.
Her granddaughter, Jessica Stivers, was one of the contestants.
