n Coaldale: The Coaldale Lions Club will meet at 5:45 p.m. Jan. 22 at the Vennese Villa, 201 W. Ruddle St. Robert E. Ames, president, will be in charge. All members are urged to attend.

n Danville: Train enthusiasts everywhere are welcome to attend the free trains program, held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays at Christ Memorial Episcopal Church, Pine and East Market streets. Dozens of trains are available for children and adults to play with. Parents who need diapers can get a one-week free supply at the church while their children play with the trains.

n Schuylkill Haven: Penn State Schuylkill will present the second lecture of the 2012-13 Diversity Speaker Series on Jan. 23 James Braxton Peterson, director of Africana Studies and associate professor of English at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, will deliver the lecture titled, "The Post-Obama Election and The Dream of Martin Luther King." His talk will be preceded by a musical performance by the Gatling Sisters, Harrisburg. Peterson is founder of Hip Hop Scholars LLC, an association of hip hop generational scholars dedicated to researching and developing the cultural and educational potential of hip hop, urban and youth cultures. He has appeared on Fox News, CBS, MSNBC, ABC News, ESPN and various local television networks as an expert on race, politics and popular culture. In addition to Lehigh University, he has held positions at Princeton University, Bucknell University, Lewisburg, and Harvard University. n Shenandoah: The Shenandoah Area Public Library, Washington and Main streets, is selling Deppen Pies. A variety of flavors are available. For more information, visit the library or call 570-462-9829. All are welcome to take part in the sale. Library board officers include Mary Ellen Matunis, president; Kawika Daguio, vice president; Mary Luscavage, treasurer, and Mary Ann Mickelonis, secretary. Other board members include attorney Kathleen Palubinsky, Helen Biddle, Pam Conroy, Andrea Pytak and William S. Krash, Ph.D.

n Shenandoah: The borough has an ordinance requiring people who walk pets on public sidewalks to clean up after them. Those who do not are in violation of the law and can face a fine. Pet owners may not allow their animals to roam in the borough unleashed or out of control. Driving ATVs on public streets or areas where they are not allowed, such as parks or private property, also is unlawful. Anyone who witnesses such violations is asked to contact municipal authorities.

n Tamaqua: The borough street department is collecting Christmas trees throughout January. Residents should place their trees at the curb for pickup on their regular garbage collection day. The street department will check each street on garbage days and collect trees as time and weather permits. Trees should not be placed in bags and must be free of tinsel and other decorations. Trees will not be collected after Jan. 31. Residents can also drop off trees behind the borough garage at 421 (rear) E. Broad St. Snow removal will be done on various streets in the borough during winter. Streets will be posted the day before snow removal is scheduled. Snow removal may begin anytime after 12:01 a.m. on the posted day and start times will vary depending on work schedules and weather conditions. Residents must move their vehicles for snow removal. Vehicles that remain on the posted streets will be ticketed and towed at owner expense.
