Police accuse man of damaging car
GIRARDVILLE - A borough man was charged with criminal mischief after he allegedly damaged a man's parked vehicle in the 100 block of West Main Street on Sunday afternoon, police said.
State police at Frackville said Gilbert Edward Smith Jr., 39, was seen damaging the vehicle owned by Michael Manbeck, 45, that was parked in front of Smith's 124 W. Main St. residence. Police said the vehicle sustained a scratch and a dent in the driver's side rear door and fender area.
The charge was filed against Smith in the office of Magisterial District Judge Christina E. Hale, Frackville, police said.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 570-874-5300. Girardville police were not on duty at the time of the incident, police said.
4 escape injuries in 2-car collision
PORT CARBON - Four people were not hurt when two vehicles collided at 3:32 p.m. Wednesday on Mill Creek Avenue, 16 feet southwest of Port Carbon Highway, in East Norwegian Township, police said.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said a 2006 H3 driven by Joanne M. Elrod, 70, of Saint Clair, was stopped at a stop sign on Mill Creek Avenue and a 2012 Ford Mustang driven by Myung K. Ko, 20, of Saint Clair, was approaching Elrod's vehicle.
Police said Ko's car collided with Elrod's vehicle before Elrod was able to travel safely onto Port Carbon Highway. Police said Ko's car sustained disabling front-end damage and Elrod's vehicle sustained minor rear-end damage.
Police said Ko and his passenger, Travis Evans, 19, of Pottsville, and Elrod and her passenger, Brand Elrod, 21, of Saint Clair, were all wearing seat belts at the time of the accident and were not hurt.
Police said Ko will be cited as a result of the collision.
Millersburg man hits embankment
TOWER CITY - A Millersburg man was not hurt when his vehicle hit a rock embankment while traveling on Route 209 at 7:02 p.m. Thursday in Porter Township, police said.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said Tony P. Maurer, 28, was southbound on Route 209 when he looked at his cellphone, causing him to travel off the west side of the roadway and hit the embankment. Police said the vehicle traveled about 40 feet along the embankment, swerved to the left, rotated 180 degrees on the road and went another 150 feet on the southbound lane.
Police said Maurer was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and his vehicle sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene. Police said Maurer will be cited as a result of the crash.
2 from Hamburg not hurt in crash
JONESTOWN - Two people from Hamburg escaped injury in a two-vehicle collision at 5:37 p.m. Friday on Interstate 78 west at mile marker 1.9 in Union Township, Lebanon County, police said.
State police at Jonestown said Keith M. Novak, 23, of Dingmans Ferry, was traveling west behind a 2005 Ford Taurus driven by Mario L. Pinder, 50, of Hamburg. Police said Pinder slowed for a traffic backlog ahead of him and Novak's 2007 Pontiac G6 struck the rear of Pinder's car.
Police said Pinder's car continued forward a short distance and eventually pulled onto the right shoulder where it came to rest, whiled Novak's vehicle went forward a short distance and came to rest on the left shoulder.
Police said Novak, Pinder and a passenger in Pinder's car, Lisa A. Pinder, 36, of Hamburg, were wearing seat belts and were not hurt.
Police said Novak will be charged with following too closely.
