A live auction show will highlight the 11th annual Spirit of the Y Dinner & Auction.
Scheduled for Feb. 23 at the Schuylkill YMCA, 520 N. Centre St., Pottsville, the event will also include a silent auction, a dinner by Roman Delight restaurant, the Milton Sorin Volunteer of the Year Award presentation and a table where guests can sponsor children to attend summer camp.
"We are pulling out all the stops this year to bring Schuylkill County the most fun, unusual event of the season," Rose Seamon, community engagement director, said in a press release.
It will be the second time the Y location will host the fundraiser. The event was previously held at the Pottsville Club.
Seamon said it's time to show off the facility, which opened in 2009, to those who might not be familiar with it.
A special VIP preview, for those who are part of a corporate table, runs from 5 to 5:30 p.m. A general auction and dinner is from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Proceeds from the event benefit financially needy families in the county.
"Last year, we gave out $60,000 in financial aid," Seamon said.
A $3,000 diamond pendant donated by Murphy Jewelers, a Florida vacation valued at $3,500, a Nordstrom's $500 gift card and a Yuengling Brewery tour are among items that will be auctioned by several special members of the Y and supporters.
About 100 items totaling more than $20,000 will be available. The YMCA's Facebook page will also have some items listed.
Seamon would not name who will present the items because details were not yet finalized.
The 2012 event made $20,000, she said, adding 127 people attended.
"The goal is to beat what we did last year," Seamon said.
Individual tickets for the evening are $80, and corporate tables for eight people are $1,000. The deadline to purchase tickets is Feb. 18.
The dinner will involve a two-hour gourmet station, Seamon said.
Individual beef, chicken and seafood, pasta and salad and breadstick stations, and a dessert will be available, she said.
Later in the evening, the Y's Swim Team Parent Association will receive this year's volunteer award.
"It's the association that makes the team run," Wayne Stump, Schuylkill YMCA executive director, said.
