n Barnesville: The annual Chinese auction sponsored by the Carbon-Tamaqua Unit of the American Cancer Society Telethon Committee will be held at noon March 24 at the Lakeside Ballroom, Route 54. Organizers said in a release there will be chances to win selective raffle prizes, 50/50 drawings, food, fresh baked goods and candy, plus a broadcast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. by disc jockey "Polka Joe" Manjack of Radio WMGH 105.5 FM, Tamaqua. There will also be entertainment by Cody Scott. The auction drawing will begin at 3 p.m. Some of the top prizes on the specially purchased white ticket include a Dell laptop computer, gift certificate for fuel oil, $1,500 in cash, NASCAR Sprint Cup tickets, an Apple iPad 2 with Wi-Fi, gas gift card, Hershey Lodge stay, Kindle Fire, trampoline, muzzleloader, 32-inch HD TV and area restaurant gift certificate packs. Proceeds will be presented at the annual ACS Telethon that will air April 6 and 7 at Penn's Peak, Jim Thorpe and be broadcast live on BRC TV-13 and Service Electric cable TV. n McAdoo: Keystone Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 will host a "trip to the past" April 9 in the firehall, 51 N. Hancock St., featuring the Main Street Cruisers, a "high-energy" eight-piece band and rock hits from the '50s and '60s. There will also be a feature performance by Elvis Presley impersonator Johnny M, who won the best Elvis voice award in a contest held in Nashville, Tenn. Patrons will be able to buy food and beverages in the firehall. Tickets are $20 in advance. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door for $25. People must be 21 or older to attend and valid identification will be required. Proceeds will benefit the fire company. n McAdoo: The McAdoo Fire Company Inc.'s weekly Thursday night bingo games are now held at a new site, the McAdoo VFW, 16 S. Kennedy Drive. Doors open at 5 p.m., earlybirds begin at 6 p.m. followed by regular games at 6:15 p.m. Food is always available and everyone is welcome.

n Pottsville: Board meetings for the Pottsville Kiwanis Club are held at noon on the third Tuesday of the month at Pine View Acres restaurant, Mill Creek.

n Seltzer: Officers of the Seltzer Hose Company, 320 Main St., are reminding members that 2013 dues must be paid before March 31. Those who have not paid by the deadline will be deleted from the membership list. For more information, call the company at 570-544-3912. The company will hold its 12th annual deer roast March 23 at the firehouse. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and dinner - deer or beef - will be at 6:30 p.m. There will be games at 8 p.m. and music by Mixx from 9 p.m. to midnight. People must be 21 or older to attend. n Shenandoah: The Polish American Fire Company, 115 W. Centre St., will sponsor a homemade devil crab dinner from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 8 at the firehouse. Meals will also include a baked potato, green beans, applesauce, roll, butter and dessert. Patrons may eat at the firehouse or take platters out. Free delivery will be available in the Shenandoah area. The cost is $9. For advance tickets, call 570-462-0970 or contact any fire company member. Proceeds will benefit the truck fund.

n Tamaqua: The Tamaqua Community Arts Center, 125 Pine St., offers the following events: Open stages the second and fourth Thursdays of the month in which the public is invited to showcase talents; acting classes and workshops; adult clay and sculpting class from 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays; kids' pottery sculpting class from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays for children ages 9 to 15; Coal Cracker Chorus practice from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Mondays with new members always welcome; high school writers' club from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays.
