MINERSVILLE - The Minersville Area school board approved the release of taxes for 326 Pine St. and 203 Spruce St., which the borough has demolished due to unsafe conditions.

Taxes on the properties were said to be $5,066.48 for 326 Pine St. and $1,600 for 203 Spruce St.

"The Minersville Borough has demolished the property due to uninhabitable and dangerous conditions," board President Albert J. Wank said while talking about each property. "After demolition, the borough was notified of the outstanding taxes on the property."

In other business, the school board recorded in the minutes that it was notified by the state Department of Education on Feb. 28 that the single audit report for the year ending June 30, 2011, found the schedule of expenditures of federal awards in compliance.

It also authorized school district solicitor Nicholas Quinn to investigate the background of a petition of the county court to seek approval of the private bid by Watermelon Realty LLC and Blackstone Funding LLC to purchase a parcel of undeveloped land in Reilly Township. Watermelon Realty and Blackstone Funding will reimburse the legal fees and filing cost to a combined total of $5,000.

"The solicitor is to file a petition should an investigation be warranted," Wank said. "The district and township have already approved this bid but the county has not yet approved the bid."

During the public comment part of the meeting, it was noted that five Scouts from Boy Scout Troop 600, Llewellyn, were attending the meeting since they had to observe a board meeting as a requirement for their Citizenship in the Community merit badge.
