Inmate charged

in incident

FRACKVILLE - An inmate at the State Correctional Institution/Mahanoy has been accused and charged with 14 counts of criminal solicitation, 28 counts of criminal conspiracy and 14 counts of criminal use of a communication facility, police said.

State police at Frackville said Waylon Earl Drey conspired and solicited a woman to bring narcotics, specifically heroin and suboxone, to SCI/Mahanoy between Jan. 25 and Feb. 15. An investigation by the state Department of Corrections as well as phone calls by Drey provided information, police said.

Drey was arraigned by video conference Monday before Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker, Shenandoah, who set bail at 10 percent of $25,000, police said. Drey is in SCI/Mahanoy on unrelated charges and a preliminary hearing is pending, police said.

Enforcements

this weekend

Several state police stations from Troop L will participate in Easter holiday enforcement this weekend.

A press release from Troop L notes that troopers from stations at Jonestown in Lebanon County, Reading and Hamburg in Berks County and Schuylkill Haven and Frackville in Schuylkill County will conduct enforcement toward aggressive violations including following too closely, abrupt lane changes, driving under the influence, speeding and driving too fast for conditions Friday through Sunday. Seat belt violations will also be enforced, police said.

Charges pending

in traffic stop

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS - State police at Frackville stopped a vehicle after it pulled off of the road Sunday morning in Butler Township and allege that the driver was under the influence of alcohol.

Police said Tim R. Weikel was arrested at 1:18 a.m for suspicion of DUI on Route 61 south in Butler Township. Charges are pending the outcome of a blood test, police said.

Man not hurt

in Rt. 895 crash

NEW RINGGOLD - A Schuylkill Haven man escaped injury when the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer he was driving crashed in the area of 978 Summer Valley Road, Route 895, in East Brunswick Township, about 9:45 p.m. Thursday, police said.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Steve Heffelfinger, 41, was driving south when he applied his brakes hard and swerved to the right to avoid deer that were reportedly running across the highway. The man lost control of his SUV, hit a speed limit sign and went off the road and down an embankment where the vehicle came to a stop in a grassy area, police said.

Heffelfinger tried to drive away from the scene but could not make it up the embankment and fled on foot, police said, adding that the claim of deer crossing the road could not be verified.

The man will receive multiple citations as a result of the crash, failure to report the crash and failure to stay at the scene, police said.

Girardville man

faces charges

GIRARDVILLE - A borough man was charged with defiant trespass, loitering and prowling at night, harassment and criminal mischief after an incident at 354 W. Main St. about 4 a.m. Sunday, state police at Frackville said.

Police said Robert Chuplis, 34, will have to answer to the charges before Magisterial District Judge Christina E. Hale, Frackville.

Police said Chuplis entered the home of Sadie Hart through a rear locked door. Once inside, the man caused a disturbance while gathering items. The man was secured in a room until police arrived, and it was learned that the man was in violation of his probation.

Chuplis was taken into custody and committed to Schuylkill County Prison on the probation violation, police said.

Man jailed

in incident

LOFTY - A McAdoo man was committed to Schuylkill County Prison after being arrested by state police at Frackville after an incident at 286 Lofty Road in Kline Township about 5 a.m. Saturday.

Police said Greg Muffley, 29, was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge James K. Reiley, Pottsville, on charges of simple assault, criminal mischief and harassment and committed to prison unable to post 10 percent of $50,000 bail.

Police said Muffley began verbally abusing a 22-year-old Andreas woman in his home and then kicked her and spit on her and tried to push her out of the residence. Muffley then pushed the woman out of the door, causing her to fall several times and also pushed her off of his deck, causing her to fall backward and hit her head and back off the ground.

When the woman got into her vehicle to leave, police said Muffley threw a large metal object hitting and smashing the rear window glass.

Police said the woman suffered several bruises on her arms, an injured right thumb, a head injury and multiple lacerations to her back.

Man charged

in assault

BRANDONVILLE - State police at Frackville charged a Ringtown man after an incident in this East Union Township village about 11 p.m. Friday.

Police said Daniel Wylie subjected a 43-year-old woman to various amounts of physical contact and was charged with simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and harassment. He was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge James K. Reiley, Pottsville, and committed to Schuylkill County Prison unable to post 10 percent of $25,000 bail.

Police said the woman suffered minor injuries, and that East Union Township Police were not working at the time of the incident.
