n Ashland: A free clothing closet is set for 10 a.m. to noon May 4 at Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church, 1238 Market St. For more information, call the church at 570-875-3000.

n Mahanoy City: Dukes Salvage, 64 N. Main St., will host an electronic recycling event from 8 a.m. to noon May 4, according to a release from Glorinda Cook of A-Plus Ind. Inc. Dukes will accept, at no charge, computers, servers, laptops, mainframes, telecom and application equipment and peripherals such as desktop-only printers, scanners, faxes and copiers, circuit boards, wire and cables, hard drives and floppies and power supplies. Organizers also will accept monitors at a fee of $10 and TVs - 33-inch or smaller, plastic only - for a fee of $25. They will not accept big printers or copiers, appliances, speakers, dehumidifiers, batteries of any kind and typewriters. For more information, call Cook at 610-767-5700.

n McAdoo: Concerned Citizens of Schuylkill County, established in the 1970s, will sponsor a candidate's forum for three open seats on the Hazleton Area School Board at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Keystone Fire Company, Hanckock Street. McAdoo Mayor Dane Watro will be the host and commentator. According to a release, the event will be an opportunity for all concerned citizens to present questions or comments. It is open to all school district taxpayers. The district includes several Schuylkill County municipalities, including McAdoo borough and North Union, East Union and Kline townships.

n Pottsville: Assumption BVM School has announced it has been awarded a 2013 ExxonMobil Educational Alliance Grant for science and math. "Our students are looking forward to using hands-on equations manipulatives and software as well as exploring new apps on the I-pads," school officials said in a press release. "We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Global Partners, Alliance Energy and Moyer Car Care."

n Shenandoah: With the annual Shenandoah Kielbasi Festival scheduled for May 18, the revitalization group Downtown Shenandoah Inc., event sponsor, has been receiving calls from throughout the country from former Shenandoah residents and others who are planning to attend, according to a report in the minutes of the Greater Shenandoah Area Chamber of Commerce meeting prepared by chamber Secretary Betty Ann Bugden. More than 5,000 attended the 2012 festival. The 2013 event, which will be even bigger, will again feature Shenandoah's so-called 3 Kielbasi Kings, commercial kielbasi makers The Capitol Food Store, East Washington Street; Kowalonek's Kielbasy, South Main Street, and Lucky's Deli, West Centre Street. Ateeco Inc., Shenandoah, make of Mrs. T's Pierogies, will also participate. There will be myriad vendors and crafters lining the first two blocks of North Main Street. The Shenandoah All-Star Polka Band will perform at American Legion Memorial Garden in the 100 block of North Main Street. The contest for private kielbasi makers who most often use recipes handed down for generations, will highlight the festival. For more information, contact DSI at 116 N. Main St. by calling 570-462-2060. The first Kielbasi/Pierogie Golf Tournament, sponsored by DSI, is set for June 8 at Mountain Valley Golf Course, Barnesville area. The fee for participants is $70 if paid by June 8 and $75 thereafter. Proceeds will benefit DSI's ongoing community revitalization efforts.

n Williamstown: The Williamstown Development Organization will welcome fathers - or uncles and grandfathers - and school-age or younger daughters for a special dance for Father's Day slated for 6 to 8 p.m. June 15 in the JFK Hall upstairs at the Williamstown American Legion. Disc jockey Shane Ressler will provide music for dancing. There will also be light refreshments and games. According to a press release, dads and daughters are invited to don spiffy suits and fancy dresses for the special evening together. Tickets at the door will be $10 per person.
