n Coaldale: Chainsaw safety training is set for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 6 in the Coaldale Complex, formerly Coaldale High School, 202 W. Phillips St., according to Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance news in a Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce Member Memo. Forest Applications Training, Hiram, Ga. - www.forestapps.com - will present the workshop, which will include classroom instruction a chainsaw safety workshop on May 6, 2013. The morning will include classroom safety instruction that will cover a variety of topics. In the afternoon, a chainsaw demonstration will be conducted onsite, showing the five-step felling plan. All participants will need to bring a hard hat. It's part of the state Department of Transportation's Local Technical Assistance Program, which provides commonwealth municipalities with transportation, road maintenance and safety training. All LTAP training workshops are free to all employees of municipalities, counties, government authorities and agencies. n Nuremberg: The Nuremberg Country Christians Youth Group will head to the Lake Tobias Wildlife Park on May 19. Transportation will be provided and the group will depart from Emmanuel Lutheran Church at 12:15 p.m. and arrive at the park at 2:30 p.m. Participants will enjoy a walking zoo tour, the safari tour, the petting zoo and a reptile show. The cost for youths who are not members of the group is $10 per person. There is a concession stand in the park, so those attending should bring money for refreshments. n Pottsville: The Schuylkill Executive Leadership Class of 2013 is forming, according to a release from the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce. Classes will begin May 29. SEL was developed in 2007 as a chamber initiative, designed to expand upon and/or hone skills people need for career advancement. It is tailored, officials said in the release, to meet people's needs in advancing their professional development no matter what their profession is. n Schuylkill Haven: Summer education opportunities will be available at Penn State Schuylkill campus for all ages, according to a Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce Member Memo. They will include Kid's College, which offers programs for children and youth, kindergarten through their junior year in high schools. They will learn how to create a mobile application or video game, work hands on with Legos to build a car for Collision Cars or learn about raptors with Hawk Mountain, among others. There will also be college-level courses in many subjects including Introductory Chinese for college students and dual enrollment high school students. College students home for the summer will have the opportunity to advance progress and save money by enrolling in summer classes at Penn State Schuylkill, according to the release. In the fall, Penn State Schuylkill will offer new, flexible evening and weekend programs designed for adult learners. People may also inquire about the 30-plus scholarship.
