LAKE HARMONY - The Jim Thorpe man who shot and killed himself after being chased by police Saturday night is the only person suspected in the homicides of his grandmother and step-grandfather in Kidder Township, according to state police at Fern Ridge.

Greg Demage, 30, shot and killed himself in a Cadillac in Coal Township. The vehicle was missing from the Kidder Township murder scene, police said.

Both John Carnochan, 77, and Mildred Carnochan, 75, of Lake Harmony, were found dead inside a home at 33 Wolf Hollow Drive, Split Rock Resort, on Saturday after township police were called to the address about noon to check on the welfare of the couple.

Both deaths were determined to be homicides after autopsies were performed Monday.

At 7:30 p.m. Saturday, troopers at Fern Ridge asked state police at Stonington to check a home in Snydertown where a former girlfriend of Demage used to live. He was spotted, but evaded police until a Ralpho Township officer spotted him at routes 54 and 487. Demage raced away at speeds of 120 mph with police in pursuit.

The high-speed chase ended nine miles away in Coal Township at Route 61 and Luke Fidler Road after two of the vehicle's tires were punctured by spike strips placed across the highway by police. Following a brief standoff with police, Demage shot himself in the car.

An autopsy and toxicology test for Demage was scheduled Tuesday at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest but those results have not yet been released.
