n Danville: For train buffs, a program called Saturday Trains is held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays at Christ Episcopal Church, Pine and East Market streets. The program features a new talking train, the Amtrak Pennsylvanian, and dozens of other trains for children and adults to play with. More than 1,000 icicle lights decorate the display.
n Fountain Springs: North Schuylkill High School's annual spring band and chorus concert will be held at 7 p.m. May 10 in the high school auditorium. School officials said in a release there will be no admission charge but donations will be gratefully accepted. Everyone is welcome.
n Pottsville: The annual Block of Art Festival in the city's downtown area is set for April 20, 21 and 22 during which fine art painters and sculptors will unveil, display and sell their works. Musicians will play original and popular tunes to get to get visitors "dancing in the streets," according to a festival press release. Culinary artists will provide hors d'oeuvres. People will be able to stroll through the downtown area and browse through art galleries, listen or dance to the music and sample food at a variety of venues. A gallery wine and cheese reception April 20 will enable visitors to speak with painters and sculptors. On April 21, there will be an opportunity for people to meet the chefs and enjoy hors d' oeuvres created by culinary students. Organizers said in the release that one of the best parts about the festival is that it's free.
n Pottsville: Thirty-five "brave men" from Schuylkill County recently participated in a video and photo shot for the Sexual Assault Resource and Counseling Center of Schuylkill County. Firefighters, a minister, an attorney, a mechanic, a hunter, politicians, dentists and businessmen took park in the "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" - in high heels - against gender violence sponsored by SARCC. On April 26, SARCC, according to a press release from Jennifer Rosenberger, SARCC office manager at 17 Westwood Center, will host the International Men's March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault and Gender Violence. The walk will begin with registration at the Humane Fire Company, Second Street and Laurel Boulevard, and end with a celebration at the Humane with music, prizes and snacks. Registration is $10 per walker. Walkers who obtain $50 or more in pledges will receive a T-shirt. The male participants will take part in a mile-long walk in women's high heels along the streets of Pottsville. Women are invited to register and march with walkers to show their support. The Rev. Jeff Colarossi of United Presbyterian Church and attorney Al Marshall are among the 35 men who participated in a five-minute promotional video encouraging men from Schuylkill County to join them in ending sexual violence. The video produced by Video Works in Reading is becoming a YouTube sensation with more than 1,000 hits in less than 24 hours, according to the SARCC release. n Tamaqua: The Coffee Cafe is held from 10 a.m. to noon Mondays at the Tamaqua Salvation Army center, 105 W. Broad St. Senior citizens are encouraged to relax with friends and enjoy a cup o' Joe with community peers. Participants can take part in discussions on current events, play cards or board games, build puzzles or view morning TV programs. Soup & Something luncheons are held at noon Mondays at a cost of $2 for senior citizens.
