2 drivers unhurt

in Shen collision

SHENANDOAH - Two drivers escaped injury in a two-vehicle crash on the 300 block of South Main Street about noon April 5, police said.

Borough police said Alicia Caulfield, 31, of 21 S. 10th St., Mahanoy City, was driving a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero south on Main Street when she failed to see the slowed/stopped 2009 Ford Escape driven by Pamela Twardzik, 47, of 401 Virginia Ave., Shenandoah Heights, and collided with it. Both vehicles came to rest in the southbound lane.

Police said Caulfield's vehicle sustained severe front-end damage and was towed from the scene. The Twardzik vehicle sustained moderate rear- end damage and was driven from the scene, police said.

Cash removed

from business

SHENANDOAH - Borough police are investigating a burglary that occurred overnight Saturday at a business.

Police said someone broke in to the Main Street Bar & Grill, 316 S. Main St., and smashed the jukebox and pool table, taking an undetermined amount of cash from each. The person or persons also rummaged through the cash register and cabinets, police said, estimating the damage to the items at $500.

2 on motorcycle

Two people were flown to a trauma center after a motorcycle crash on Progress Avenue near the Nichols Street overpass in Pottsville, about 5:10 p.m. Sunday, police said.

Pottsville police said James J. Ney, 50, of Pottsville, was driving a 1986 Harley-Davidson north when he failed to negotiate a right curve and struck a sidewalk and an aluminum fence surrounding Barefield Playground.

In the process, police said Ney and his passenger, Leann Baddick, 31, also of Pottsville, were thrown from the motorcycle.

Both were treated at the scene by Pottsville-Schuylkill Haven Area EMS and then flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest for treatment of their injuries.

Police said the motorcycle was hauled from the scene and that Progress Avenue was closed for about an hour while the investigation was conducted.

The investigation into the crash is continuing and police said charges against Ney are pending.

The North Central Regional Sobriety Checkpoint DUI Taskforce announced that Sobriety Checkpoints and Roving DUI Patrols will be conducted today through Monday along routes 61, 183, 901, 209, 1006, 309, 443, 895, 125, 25, 924 and 54.

Travelers are reminded to call 911 if they suspect a drunk driver or to call, toll-free, 888-UNDER21 to report underage drinking.

Bicycle taken

from property

RINGTOWN - State police at Frackville are investigating the theft of a neon green Mongoose bicycle from a property at 58 N. Bridge St. between 6:30 and 7:20 p.m. Sunday.

Police said someone stole the bicycle owned by a 14-year-old Ringtown boy and fled the scene. Anyone with information on the theft of the bicycle, valued at $130, is asked to call police at 570-874-5300.

WICONISCO - State police at Lykens are investigating a burglary that occurred at 510 Centre St. in this Dauphin County community between 4:30 p.m. April 8 and 5 p.m. Sunday.

Police said David L. Wetzel reported that someone entered his tool shed and removed about $1,000 in DeWalt tools before fleeing the area. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 717-362-8700.

Gratz man hurt

in cycle accident

SACRAMENTO - A 27-year-old Gratz man suffered severe injuries when the 2005 Harley-Davidson motorcycle he was driving crashed on Schwenks Road, just east of Gap School Road in Hegins Township, about 6 p.m. Sunday.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Kyle Yeagley was driving south when his motorcycle went off the road, traveled about 28 feet and hit a tree. The motorcycle re-entered the highway and traveled an additional 28 feet before turning onto its side and throwing the man an additional 18 feet.

Yeagley was taken to Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, by helicopter for treatment, and police said Hegins EMS and Sacramento and Valley View firefighters assisted at the scene.

Police said charges against Yeagley will be filed as a result of the crash.

Rock dropped

from trestle

CRESSONA - Vandals damaged the front end of a car by dropping a rock from a train trestle on Saturday night, police said.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said the incident occurred between 6:35 and 6:45 p.m. Saturday. The rock bounced off the road and struck the front end of a black 2007 Toyota Tundra owned by Gordon Brewer, Jonestown, police said.
