PORT CLINTON - Firefighters from Schuylkill and Berks counties were dispatched to a mountain fire at 8:22 p.m. Friday.
According to the Berks County Communications Center, the fire was reported on the east side of Port Clinton and was under control by 1:38 a.m. Saturday.
Hamburg Fire Chief Troy Hat said Monday that all the fire units were released by 3 a.m. when the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources took over at the scene. Hat said firefighters assisted DCNR on Saturday as a helicopter was doing air drops to touch up hot spots.
Chad Northcraft, fire forester for Schuylkill County with DCNR, also said Monday that the fire was spread just over four acres and the cause is currently under investigation.
"We had crews on it until 2 p.m. Saturday," he said.
Northcraft said brush fire crews from Hamburg, Deer Lake/West Brunswick, Walker Township and Saint Clair assisted. Crews from Pine Grove and Carbon County also assisted at the scene Friday evening.
