GILBERTON - A woman was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after she crashed her SUV in Gilberton during a pursuit that began in Hazleton on Friday night.
State police at Frackville said the woman, who was not identified, was driving north on Route 924 when she lost control on the off-ramp to Gilberton just before 9 p.m. The woman went off the road causing her Jeep Grand Cherokee to come to a stop on its roof.
The woman apparently drove south on Interstate 81 with troopers trying to stop her. She then exited the interstate at the Frackville exit, continued through Frackville and onto Route 924 where the crash occurred.
The crash shut down both the Route 924 northbound off-ramp to Gilberton and also the northbound on-ramp to Route 924 from Gilberton.
Frackville EMS transported the woman to the hospital complaining of head and leg pain. Gilberton firefighters stopped traffic from entering the on-ramp near their fire station and also assisted at the scene of the crash.
Both ramps were closed for about an hour while the investigation into the crash was conducted and the severely damaged vehicle removed from the scene.
Police at the scene said the woman will face charges as a result of the crash and also from state police at Hazleton for whatever violations that occurred as a result of the pursuit.
