n Ashland: A townwide yard sale to benefit the Ashland Recreation Board is set for 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 26. The participation fee is $10 and forms are available at borough hall. n Auburn: The Auburn Fire & Ambulance group is launching its annual fund drive and packets will be mailed to people and businesses in its service area on May 1, according to a release from Judy A. Epting, president of Auburn Ambulance and treasurer of the Auburn Fire Company. The coverage area includes Auburn borough and parts of South Manheim and West Brunswick townships. The drive, she said, plays a "big part" in keeping the fire and ambulance corps in operation during the year. n Frackville: St. John the Baptist Polish National Catholic Church will hold a Chinese auction Sunday in the church hall, 414 W. Oak St. Doors will open at noon and the auction will begin at 2 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
n Girardville: Due to Service Electric Cablevision making cable connections along Main Street, there will be no parking on both sides of the street from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the following locations: Monday, Main Street from William to Julia streets, and Tuesday, Main Street from Fourth to William streets.
n Pine Grove: The Pine Grove Ambulance Association will stage its subscription drive throughout May. Residents of the association's coverage area will receive via mail a subscription enrollment form, spokesman Dave Lukasewicz said in a press release. Residents are asked to fill out the required information and mail back the application with required amount in an enclosed envelope. The subscription rates are $30 per family and $20 per adult. Anyone in the association's coverage area who does not receive a subscription form in the mail should call 570-345-3004 and leave a message. The coverage area includes Pine Grove borough, Pine Grove Township, Washington Township and part of Tremont Township excluding Molleystown and areas above, and part of Wayne Township east of Route 895 to Moyers Station Road, east on Route 443 to Laurel Street and east on Sweet Arrow Lake Road to Biddle Road. May 31 is the end of the enrollment period. Any subscriptions mailed after that will be subject to a 30-day waiting period, Lukasewicz said.
n Shenandoah: The Shenandoah Rotary Club is sponsoring a program of providing American flags in honor of relatives or friends who are serving or have served in the armed forces. The cost is $20 per flag and the banners will be displayed in the borough starting Memorial Day weekend. They will then be flown in the borough throughout the year for significant holidays, Rotary spokeswoman Mary Ann Link said in a press release. Those who buy flags will receive certificates from the Rotary acknowledging the memory or honor contribution. n Shenandoah: The borough will begin its 2012 comprehensive street sweeping program on Tuesday, according to an announcement from borough Manager Joseph L. Palubinsky. Residents are asked to adhere to the posted signs and refrain from parking on streets scheduled for sweeping. Tickets will be issued to violators. Beginning Monday, tickets will be issued for parking violations during the borough's weekly sweeping Mondays and Wednesdays on Main and Centre streets.
