A Pottsville woman escaped injury Thursday morning after she fell asleep behind the wheel of her car which went off North 12th Street in the city, struck a parked vehicle and drove into the landscaping bordering Ed's USA Auto Rentals, according to Pottsville police.
At 10:12 a.m. Thursday, Heather Wagner, 32, was driving a gray 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt LT south on the 300 block of North 12th Street when she swerved to the right, police said.
She struck the front end of an unoccupied parked vehicle, a blue 2000 Hyundai Sonata GLS V6 owned by Angel and Michelle Velazquez, 304 North 12th St.
Then Wagner drove up onto the sidewalk and hit a fence bordering the property of Ed's USA Auto Rentals at 303 N. 12th St. Her car knocked down the fence and came to rest in the greenery on the landscaped slope bordering the business.
Employees at Ed's USA Auto Rentals who saw the crash immediately rushed to help, said Nella Hutsko, Pottsville, the assistant manager at the rental center.
Wagner's car was on uneven ground when it hit the landscaping. Hutsko said one of Ed's USA tow trucks helped stabilize the vehicle.
Responders included Pottsville firefighters. Wagner's vehicle was towed from the scene and city police are still investigating the crash, police said.
