REEDSVILLE - An Auburn woman died from injuries she suffered Friday in a two-vehicle crash on Route 183 in Wayne Township.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said Courtney L. Hengen, 22, was flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, where she died a short time after arriving.
Hengen was a passenger in a 2004 Mazda 3 driven by Eric A. Mitchell, 19, also of Auburn. Mitchell and an infant boy in a child safety seat suffered only minor injuries.
The second vehicle involved in the 9:49 a.m. crash was driven by Tina Walker, 54, of Fredericksburg.
Walker and her passenger, William W. Walker, 53, also of Fredericksburg, were both flown by helicopter to Reading Hospital and Medical Center, West Reading.
Trooper David Hillbish, the investigating officer, said Tina Walker suffered major injuries while her passenger suffered moderate injuries.
Hillbish said the crash occurred at Route 183 and Lutz Valley Road, at Martin's Farm Market and Garden Center. Hillbish said Mitchell was driving north on Route 183 when he went off the east side of the road and onto the berm.
Mitchell over-corrected, causing his car to skid to the left, cross the northbound lane and enter the southbound lane where it was struck by the Walkers' oncoming S-10 truck, Hillbish said, adding that impact occurred in the southbound lane.
Mitchell and the child in his car were both taken to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street for treatment.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, Hillbish said, adding that everyone involved was wearing a seat belt.
Route 183 was closed for several hours while police investigated the crash and the damaged vehicles were removed. Assisting were Pottsville-Schuylkill Haven Area EMS and firefighters from Summit Station and Friedensburg.
